Secondary Mathematics Excellence, Ready for U.S. Classrooms

By Praxical Strategies

Two secondary mathematics educators — a coordinator and competition coach finishing a Ph.D., and a technology-driven community builder completing a doctorate — bring data-driven, student-centered math instruction to U.S. classrooms. Explore their profiles.

Where most people see numbers, they see possibility — and this week, Teacher Connect introduces two secondary mathematics educators who turn equations into confidence, one lesson at a time. Irene T. Belarmino and Gennefel Dura each bring more than a decade of classroom experience to U.S. middle and high school mathematics, and each arrives with a distinct leadership story worth hearing.

One Discipline, Two Distinct Classroom Leaders

Both educators teach Mathematics at the secondary level, spanning Grades 7 through 10, and both ground their practice in data-driven, student-centered instruction. Yet their paths to excellence diverge in ways that matter to a hiring committee: one is a coordinator and competition coach finishing a doctorate in educational management, while the other is a doctoral student in supervision and administration whose classrooms are built on technology, SEL, and collaborative community.

Irene T. Belarmino: The Coordinator and Competition Coach

Irene T. Belarmino brings more than 15 years of secondary mathematics teaching to the table, along with a resume that reads like a study in instructional leadership. A Mathematics Coordinator who has trained fellow teachers and coached students to excel in local and national mathematics competitions, she specializes in standards-aligned instruction that develops problem-solving, critical thinking, and 21st-century skills. Her approach pairs data-driven instruction and formative assessment with differentiated strategies — closing learning gaps for struggling students while challenging advanced learners. She is currently completing a Ph.D. in Educational Management, and her philosophy centers on student-centered pedagogy and cultural responsiveness so that every learner has equitable access to mathematical success.

Gennefel Dura: The Technology-Driven Community Builder

Gennefel Dura's decade of teaching across Grades 7 through 12 has been defined by a conviction that all students can achieve in mathematics when instruction is data-driven, inclusive, and connected to real-world applications. Currently completing a doctorate in Development Education with a major in Supervision and Administration, she differentiates instruction by using formative and summative data to design targeted interventions, and she integrates instructional technology — from Google Classroom to online learning platforms — to keep every learner engaged. Her classrooms are collaborative communities where SEL practices, positive relationships with students and families, and resilience-building routines foster the curiosity and problem-solving skills students carry long after the bell rings.
